The Hour Glass edition by W B William Butler Yeats Literature Fiction eBooks

A brief, readable play. I don't know what perspective Yeats himself would have had while he was living and writing this. But it seems that the roles of the Wise Man and the Fool are meant to be perspectives. To me, the meaning was that it is a mistake to confine reality to the visible world. By overintellectualizing, we miss the wonder and the truth. The verse in James comes to mind: "Let not many of you become teachers, as such will incur a stricter judgment." And elsewhere, "The wisdom of God is foolishness to the world."

The Hour Glass edition by W B William Butler Yeats Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

to me it try to show that G*D is everything and technology is against G*D. I o not believe in this.
Yeats speaks ot today's false wisdom. The wise man says there is no God. He does not learn until he dies that he is a fool and not wise at all.
Words for the ages.
A very simple piece with good rhythm. Many will find it preachy, which is its intent. Worth the few minutes you can spare for it.
I completely disagree with the previous reviewer's opinion and reading. To fully appreciate Yeats, one must understand his position in the Modernist movement. This play is clever, ironic, and moving. Yeats imbeds a lamentation for the Christian era in this revelatory masterpiece. A reaffirmation of faith in a demoralized age.
